Funding secured for Porchfield Community Centre

The Porchfield Community Centre in Croxteth has been successful with their funding bid to the Henry Smith Foundation and the Big Lottery Awards for All. The £97,300 funding has secured the centre’s future until August 2021.

The Project Coordinator, Geraldine Mason said: ‘We are thankful to the Henry Smith Foundation and the Big Lottery for having the faith to grant us with this funding, so that we can carry on getting local older people out of isolation and socialising with each other. ‘Thanks to all the people that use our centre as well, as without them, there would be no need for us to be here. I would also like to thank all my volunteers for their constant commitment and time.’

Cllr Anthony Lavelle added: ‘I welcome the news that the centre has had their funding secured for the next 3 years. The centre is a real grassroots community group, which works tirelessly to strengthen the community by improving the health, wellbeing and quality of life of older people in Croxteth.’

The centre, located on Storrington Avenue, hosts numerous classes and events to help older people out of isolation. These include: computer training, crafts, drama, coffee and chat, holistic therapies, flower arranging, local history, calligraphy, healthy cooking, line dancing, yoga, history classes, Tai Chi, social afternoons & evenings, trips out etc.
